DUBLIN, Ireland, SAN FRANCISCO & NEW YORK, December 1, 2008 – Elan Corporation, plc (NYSE: ELN) announced today that John Moriarty, Jr., has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Legal—Commercial Operations and Litigation.  Mr. Moriarty will be responsible for leading the company’s Commercial Operations legal team, and for the company’s litigation, including its existing cases, employment litigation, governmental investigations, and third-party subpoenas.  He will also work closely with the Elan Drug Technologies legal organization on litigation matters relative to the EDT business.

Mr. Moriarty joins Elan with significant legal experience in the healthcare industry, most recently as Executive Director and Associate General Counsel, Global Commercial Operations, Amgen Oncology, a role he has held since 2005. Earlier, he served as Amgen’s Senior Counsel, Complex Litigation, Products Liability and Government Investigations. Among his many accomplishments, he was responsible for the commercial legal team supporting Amgen’s $7 billion supportive care and therapeutic oncology franchise.
