Grant Guidelines
General Guidelines
Grant requests must demonstrate the ability to meet unmet educational needs of the target audience and encourage the improvement of patient outcomes. The selection of medium and format should be commensurate with the educational needs, the audience, learning preferences, geography, content complexity, and other factors which contribute to educational effectiveness. The types of organizations eligible to apply for grants include hospitals, medical centers, professional societies and associations.
Elan will consider the following types of educational activities for grant funding including, but not limited to, the following:
- Educational support to Professional Medical Societies
- Symposia/satellite symposia
- Meetings, conferences, seminars or teleconferences
- Webcasts
- Printed media (e.g., monographs, newsletters)
- Recorded programs (e.g., podcasts)
- Interactive digital-media programs (e.g., Internet, CD-ROMs)
Process
There are many factors that come into account when making grant decisions. Elan competitively reviews all grants so we more closely align resource availability with the highest quality grants. In general, Elan takes into account the following factors when reviewing a grant:
- Alignment with one of Elan’s clinical areas of interest
- Qualifications/experience of accredited provider and educational partners
- Compliance with all applicable policies and regulations
- Quality-cost effectiveness and demonstration of innovation
- Needs assessment which outlines gap(s) in health care performance that intervention intends to address
Grant submissions should be made at least 4-6 weeks prior to the event date to ensure all necessary review and paperwork is completed in a timely manner. In order for your submission to be reviewed, Elan must receive the following:
- Official request letter, on institutional letterhead, stating the intent of how grant funds will be distributed
- A program or agenda of events, with specific topics, and speakers, if appropriate
- If funds requested exceed $20,000, a budget detailing how funds will be used
Submissions that do not contain all required information will not be accepted for review.
The Grant Review Committee (GRC) meets twice a month. Once a decision is made, you will be notified by email within one week following the GRC meeting.
